She also apologizes to Ricky for not doing anything to stop his abuse. The two share a sweet moment, where she gives him money to save for John and thanks him for finally putting his father away. ![]() Him and Leo seem to create a bond that is greater than Ben and Leo’s relationship, which pisses Ben off, but everything pisses Ben off.Īt one point, Ricky ran away to Vegas and found his biological mother. ![]() He’s proven to be a great employee and impresses Leo so much that he lets him live in the apartment above it so he can get more custody of John. He starts working for Ben’s dad at his butcher shop. In this time, he has gotten a job, something Amy was reluctant about getting. Old Ricky probably would not have given two craps, but he actually wants John to know him and his family. This pisses Amy off, but like it or nt, the judge agrees that he deserves to see his son more. At some point, Ricky realizes he hasn’t always been there for John and wants that to change, so he files for partial custody. He’s with Adrian and both have been cheating on each other, which they come to realize is not healthy and decide to work on being together. When Amy tries to leave the country with him to go on vacation with Ben, he refuses to let that happen. Anyway, the whole family seems to like Ricky. In season two, Ricky is very hands on, much to Amy’s annoyance, which is weird because you would think she would want John to have an active father. In the season one finale, the last moment includes him talking to his son John. When John is born, you can see the look in his eyes…he loves his son. Even when his biological father comes around, trying to get him to sell the baby, he refuses and we see Ricky become a man as he stands up to him, his father soon going back to jail. He and Adrian go on a break, he baby proofs his room and convinces Amy not to give the baby up. In the beginning, it is so he can sleep with Grace, but as the pregnancy progresses, he seems to get a little more serious. ![]() I think we’re supposed to believe that he won’t want to be around for the baby, but he actually does. He was with great foster parents (who were the best parents on the show, go Margaret and Shaker!), but was always acting out due to his past. But we quickly come to learn why he’s like that: his father molested him when he was a child and he had grown up in foster care. In the pilot, we see Ricky as a manwhore who took Amy’s virginity and has a thing going on with Adrian. One character was the only reason I watched the show for the last two seasons. ![]() But one character actually did a complete 180. Ben…well Ben was always annoying but he just got progressively worse. Adrian seemed to be redeeming herself, but then got pregnant with Ben’s baby and it all went down from there-and not all of that can be blamed on losing the baby. Grace had sex and it all just went down from there (I mean did she really think that she killed her dad by sleeping with Jack? Moron). (I’m a big 7th Heaven fan, which the creator of TSLOTAT created as well, but it also had some terribly shitty writing) Amy went from a shy, obnoxious fifteen year old to a whiny tantrum adult who didn’t pay much attention to her son. As the show progressed, most of the characters got worse as the writing got worse. It included Amy-a pregnant fifteen year old, Ricky-her bad boy baby daddy, Ben-the rich “good” guy, Adrian-the school slut, Jack-the football player, Grace-the Christian and so many others. The story followed the life of a group of high school students going through what “normal” high school students go through. The show debuted in 2008 and ran until 2013. The Secret Life of the American Teenager is one of ABC Family’s most love to hate shows that has ever aired. This reviews contains spoilers from all 5 seasons of TSLOTAT, read at your own risk.
